IPL Hair Removal Treatment Advice
Following the correct preparation and aftercare guidance is important to help your treatment be as safe and effective as possible.
Preparation
Before your treatment
- Avoid UV exposure from the sun or tanning beds and avoid self-tan before and between treatments.
- Laser & IPL therapies: avoid UV for 4 weeks.
- SHR: avoid UV for 2 weeks.
- Shave hair in the treatment area 24 hours before treatment.
- Avoid alcohol and smoking the night before and on the treatment day.
- Do not wear makeup, lotions or creams on the treatment area on the day.
- Avoid skin peels or laser procedures for four weeks beforehand.
- Avoid bleaching creams or perfumed products for 48 hours.
- Do not exercise immediately before treatment.
- Avoid exfoliating or microdermabrasion for at least one week.
- Keep the treatment area clean and dry.
- Drink plenty of water and keep the skin hydrated.
Aftercare
After your treatment
- Apply a cold compress if the area feels hot or uncomfortable.
- Aloe Vera gel may be applied for sensations similar to sunburn or itching.
- Avoid restrictive clothing over the area.
- Avoid creams containing salicylic or glycolic acid.
- Avoid shaving, deodorant and perfumes in the treatment area for 48 hours.
- Avoid swimming, saunas, hot baths and hot showers for one week.
- Avoid aerobic exercise for 24 hours.
- Avoid sun exposure and use SPF 30+ if exposure cannot be avoided.
- Avoid excessive scrubbing or exfoliation for one week.
- Avoid self-tanning products for one week.
- Do not pick or scratch crusting.
- Do not wax, tweeze or thread during the treatment course.
- Keep the treated area clean and dry for 48 hours.
Before your next appointment
Clients should inform their therapist if they have not followed the recommended treatment guidance, as this may increase the possibility of an adverse reaction or affect suitability for treatment.
They should also notify the therapist of changes to their health or medication.
